How to split a PDF into several files

Short answer

Open the free Split PDF tool, drop your file, choose Every page, Custom ranges (for example 1-3, 4-9) or Every N pages, then download the files. The pages are copied unchanged, so quality does not change, and the file is processed in your browser.

Split PDF

Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

or paste with ⌘V · up to 400 MB per file · stays on your device

With the free Nimbo web tool (any device)

  1. Open Split PDF and drop your file, or choose it from your device.
  2. Pick a mode: Every page, Custom ranges or Every N pages.
  3. Check the colored groups on the page previews: each color is one output file.
  4. Select Split PDF, then download the ZIP (or the single PDF).

With Preview on a Mac

  1. Open the PDF in Preview and choose View > Thumbnails.
  2. Select the pages for the first part (⌘-click to pick several).
  3. Drag the selected thumbnails onto the desktop: Preview creates a new PDF with just those pages.
  4. Repeat for each part.

Tips

  • A range ending with a dash, like 10-, goes to the last page.
  • If you only need one set of pages, Extract pages gives you a single PDF directly.
  • Bookmarks are not copied into the parts; page content, links and quality are.

Frequently asked questions

Does splitting a PDF reduce its quality?

No. Each page is copied as it is; nothing is re-compressed.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

Not with the web tool. Open it with the password in an app that can remove protection first.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The web tool works in your browser and does not send the file anywhere.
